Story Of A Talented Bangladeshi Wicketkeeper Batter: Litton Das

In the entire Bangladesh cricket history, Litton Kumar Das, popularly known as Litton Das is one of the most renowned names as a wicketkeeper batter known for his aggressive batting in the opening position and his beautiful cover drive shots.

Litton Das was born on the 13th of October in 1994 in Dinajpur, Bangladesh and started his cricketing career for the North Zone Bangladesh team.

Education: Litton Das was born In Dinajpur and completed his entire schooling and college career at Dinajpur University. Later he pursued a BBA degree also.

Das’s Personal Life: Litton Das was born in a traditional Hindu family. He is the son of Bacchu Cnadra Das, his father and Anita Das, his mother. Apart from Litton, he has 2 brothers in his family. From childhood, he was very passionate about playing cricket and later he followed his dream and become one of the most successful cricket players in Bangladesh.

On the 28th of July, 2019, Litton got married to Devashri Biswas Sonchita, an agriculturist as a professional in Mirpur and she was with him as his girlfriend for several years.

Litton Das’s T20 and Domestic Career: Litton Das was a member of the U19 Bangladesh cricket team in the year 2012 and 2014. During the 2014-15 edition of the National Cricket League, Das played for the Rangpur Division and scored 1024 runs from 7 matches which included 5 centuries at a brilliant average of 85.33 and helped the team to win that series.

In the year 2017, Das played in the Bangladesh Cricket League in January and in that series he scored the first double-century of his career. Due to his brilliant performance of him, he was again got selected for the National test side for the India series in the next month.

In the 2017-18 edition of the Bangladesh Cricket League, Litton Das scored 752 runs from 14 matches that he played which included 274 runs in a single inning.

Apart from the Bangladesh Premier League which T20 league of Bangladesh, Das played in several other leagues worldwide and he is a pretty popular T20 player worldwide because of his numerous brilliant performances.

Litton Das’s International Career: On the 10th of June 2015, Litton played the first international test match of his career against the Indian team. Later in that same series, Litton also made his ODI debut on the 18th of June.

In that same year, Litton played the first T20 match for Bangladesh in his career against the South African cricket team. 2017 was the year when Litton played his first match for the Bangladesh side as a wicketkeeper batter on 2nd March when Bangladesh’s captain Mushfiqur Rahim was asked by the board to play only as a proper batter in the Sri Lanka series.

In the year 2018, Bangladesh had a series against West Indies in the United States, the team performed horribly in the Test format but in the T20 format, Das scored his first-ever T20I half-century after facing just 24 deliveries and helped the team to win the T20 series by 2-1 and due his performance he won the player of the match award as well.

28th Of September in 2018 will be remembered forever by all cricket fans, as the final game of the Asia Cup because that day everyone witnessed one of the closest encoder cricket has ever offered. On that day, Das made his first ODI century of his career, 121 runs from 117 deliveries which included 2 sixes. The Bangladesh team lost that match against India in the last ball of that game but Das won the player of that match award for his brilliant performance.

Due to his numerous brilliant performances over the years, Das was selected for the 2019 ODI World Cup team and on the very first game, Das played a brilliant 94 runs innings and made a 189 runs partnership with Shakib al Hasan which helped the team to win by 7 wickets and this win became history in the Bangladesh Cricket.

During the Zimbabwe tour of Bangladesh in the year 2020, Das in the first ODI match scored the 2nd ODI ton of his career and also became the first batter of Bangladesh to score a ton in Sylhet. Litton made 1000 runs in ODI in the second ODI match of that series and also made the highest-run partnership for Bangladesh cricket, 292 runs with Tamim Iqbal where Das scored 176 runs. In that series, Das ended with 311 runs under his name at an extraordinary average of over 100 and won the player of the entire series award.

In the West Indies tour of Bangladesh in 2021, Das played brilliantly in the test format and became the highest scorer in that series, scoring 200 runs which included 2 50s.

In the New Zealand tour in 2021, Das was not contributed at all in both the ODI or the T20 series but in the last match of the T20 series, Das for the first time captained the national side because of an injury of Mhamadullah, the regular skipper but unfortunately, he could not help the team to win and Bangladesh loses that series by 3-0.

To date, Litton Das has played 3 test matches for the Bangladesh team and scored 2112 runs with a respectable batting average of 35.8 which includes 3 tons and 14 half-tons. Das is also a very renowned name in the limited overs format cricket in Bangladesh and to date, he played 57 ODI matches and 64 T20I matches for his national side from where he scored 1835 and 1388 runs respectively. His ODI batting average is close to 36 with 7 half-centuries and 5 tons and his T20I batting average is a respectable 22 with 8 50 runs scores.

As a wicketkeeper batter, Litton Das is one of the popular names recently in the Bangladesh cricket circuit. Right now he is just 28 years old and he has a bright future left ahead also he has now become a regular vice-captain of Bangladesh in all formats.
